Boca Raton firearm training session with instructor Mike Kneuer

Training for Boca Raton Gun Owners

Boca Raton students usually know what they want. A license that works when they travel. A safe way to keep a handgun in a house in Boca Pointe or Broken Sound. Confidence with a gun that has sat in a drawer for years. A parent near FAU who wants their college-age kid to learn safe handling properly.

You book privately, you get one instructor the whole time, and the session is built around what you came to do. No classroom, no hour of slides before you touch a firearm.

Delray Beach Firearm Training is run by Mike Kneuer and Suburban Protector, and it serves Boca Raton from two ranges a short drive north: an indoor range in Lake Worth Beach and a private outdoor range in Boynton Beach.

Getting to the Range From Boca Raton

From East Boca and Mizner Park

I-95 north is the simplest route to either range. If you are coming from downtown Boca near Palmetto Park Road or Glades Road, plan your session outside of the morning and evening rush and the drive is straightforward.

From West Boca

Students west of the Turnpike, around Lakes of Boca and the communities along Lyons Road and State Road 7, often find the Turnpike or Jog Road a calmer drive north to Boynton Beach.

Starting pointApproximate drive to Palm Beach Shooting Center
Mizner Park, east Boca30 to 35 minutes, about 21 miles
Glades Road and State Road 7, West Boca35 to 45 minutes, about 25 miles
Highland Beach30 to 35 minutes, about 18 miles

Estimates from mapping software outside rush hour. Mike will suggest the location that makes sense for your course and your address when he confirms your session. Range fees are separate and are confirmed in advance.

West Boca Firearm Training

West Boca is its own world, and it has its own search for a reason. Students from Boca West, Lakes of Boca, Boca Lago, Sandalfoot Cove, Mission Bay, and the communities along Lyons Road, Glades Road, and State Road 7 often find Florida’s Turnpike or Jog Road the easier way north. Many are retirees or seasonal residents with a handgun bought years ago, or families in gated communities who want everyone in the house to know how the gun in the safe works.

The most common first booking from West Boca is a private lesson, followed by the concealed carry class once the basics feel comfortable. If grip strength or recoil is a concern, say so in your request and Mike will plan for it. Our page on firearm training for seniors covers that in more detail.

Training Versus Range Time

Boca Raton has no shortage of people who own firearms and go shooting now and then. The difference between that and training is feedback. When you shoot alone, you see where the holes land but you rarely know why. A low-left group usually comes from the trigger press. A group that spreads after the fifth shot is often grip fatigue or anticipation of recoil. Those are easy to correct when someone is standing next to you, and hard to diagnose by yourself.

That is the whole value of an instructor. One focused hour with corrections you can repeat will do more for most shooters than several unsupervised range trips. Mike also gives you a short practice plan so the improvement holds after you leave.

What Students Say

Delray Beach Firearm Training is run by Mike Kneuer and Suburban Protector. These are real Google reviews left for Suburban Protector by students who trained with Mike.

★★★★★
Second training session with Mike and there will certainly be a third. He doesn’t just run down a list of drills but actually provides individualized instruction and coaching. Mike paid close attention to grip, stance, movement, etc and demonstrated how to adjust. Making what felt like small changes ended up yielding big improvements

★★★★★
I’ve been training with Mike for self-defense, and I can honestly say he’s one of the best instructors out there. He’s patient, knowledgeable, and really takes the time to make sure you feel confident and safe. Mike explains everything clearly, focuses on proper technique, and always makes sure you understand why each step matters.

★★★★★
I took a shooting course with Suburban Protector run by Mike, and it was an amazing experience from start to finish. We went over the basics like proper grip, unholstering technique, and aiming, then moved into practical self-defense drills that really built my confidence. Mike’s instruction was clear, professional, and easy to understand, no matter your experience level. He puts a big emphasis on gun safety and proper handling, which I really appreciated. I left the course with way more knowledge and confidence than I came with, and had a great time doing it.

Boca Raton Questions

Is there firearm training close to Boca Raton?

Yes. Boca Raton students train at Palm Beach Shooting Center in Lake Worth Beach or at a private outdoor range in Boynton Beach. Both are a straight drive north on I-95, and many West Boca students prefer Florida’s Turnpike or Jog Road.

Can my teenager take a lesson with me?

Family lessons are common. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and must meet the range’s own age rules, which Mike confirms before booking. Bringing a second person also lowers the price to $100 per person for the hour.

Do you offer corporate or club group training for Boca Raton organizations?

Yes. Group training works well for office teams, social clubs, and neighborhood associations. Tell Mike your headcount and goals and he will suggest an indoor session or an outdoor training day.

Do you schedule around Shabbat and Jewish holidays?

Yes. Because almost everything is booked privately, sessions can be scheduled around Shabbat and the holidays. See our Jewish community training page for details.
