Why Start With a Private Lesson

A group class moves at the speed of the group. A private lesson moves at yours. If you have never touched a firearm, you can take the first half hour on handling and safety without anyone waiting on you. If you have shot for years, the whole hour can go to the one thing you want to fix, like a trigger press that pulls your shots low or a grip that slips after a few rounds.

Private lessons are the most booked service for students in Delray Beach, Boca Raton, and Boynton Beach. Most people take one lesson first, then decide whether they want a second, the concealed carry course, or one of the Protector courses.

What a Lesson Covers

For new shooters

  • The four universal safety rules and how they apply at home and at the range
  • How your firearm works, how to load it, unload it, and check that it is clear
  • Grip, stance, sight alignment, and trigger control
  • Live fire at close distance, building up as you get comfortable

For experienced shooters

  • Diagnosis of your groups and what is causing misses
  • Grip and trigger corrections you can repeat on your own
  • Recoil management and follow-up shots
  • Malfunction clearing and reloads

Where Lessons Happen

Lessons run at Palm Beach Shooting Center in Lake Worth Beach or at a private outdoor range in Boynton Beach. Mike will suggest the better fit for your goals and confirm everything before you book.

Who Books Private Lessons Near Delray Beach

First-time buyers

Some people book before they buy. They want to shoot two or three handguns with an instructor beside them so they can feel the difference between a compact 9mm, a full-size pistol, and a revolver before spending money at a gun counter on Federal Highway. That one hour often saves a second purchase later.

New owners

Others already bought a gun and realized they are not sure how to load it, clear it, or store it. A private lesson starts at that exact point. Nobody is waiting on you and no question is too basic.

Inherited firearms

Delray Beach and Boca Raton have a lot of households where a parent’s revolver or pistol has been sitting in a drawer for years. We will show you how to check it safely, how it works, and whether it is the right tool for you to keep.

Experienced shooters

If you have shot for years and your groups have stopped improving, a private hour is the fastest way to find out why. Most plateaus come from one or two habits in grip or trigger press that are hard to see on yourself.

Not sure which gun to buy?

Shoot a few handguns side by side with an instructor before you spend money at the counter. It is booked as a regular private lesson. See how try before you buy works.

Group classes have a place, and we run them too. But if you only have time for one session, the private hour gets you the most for it.

A Realistic Path After the First Lesson

  1. Lesson one: safety, handling, and fundamentals with live fire.
  2. Lesson two, if needed: repeat the fundamentals, add reloads and malfunction clearing, and start shooting at slightly longer distances.
  3. Next step: the concealed carry course if you plan to carry, or Protector Level 1 for a full three hours of fundamentals.
  4. Ongoing: a private session every few months to check your progress, or Protector Level 2 at the outdoor range in Boynton Beach.

What Private Lesson Students Say

Delray Beach Firearm Training is run by Mike Kneuer and Suburban Protector. These are real Google reviews left for Suburban Protector by students who trained with Mike.

★★★★★
I am fairly new to shooting and was nervous about handling a gun. Mike listened to all of my concerns and brought me in with all of that in mind. He showed me everything I needed to know and made me feel comfortable throughout the lesson. He provided all of the equipment and let me shoot three different guns, explaining the difference between each. It was well worth the time and money, giving me the confidence to move forward with potentially making my first purchase. I will continue to consult with him throughout my growth with shooting.

★★★★★
Second training session with Mike and there will certainly be a third. He doesn’t just run down a list of drills but actually provides individualized instruction and coaching. Mike paid close attention to grip, stance, movement, etc and demonstrated how to adjust. Making what felt like small changes ended up yielding big improvements

Common Questions

Do I need to bring a gun?

No. A training firearm is included. If you own a handgun, bring it unloaded and cased so you learn on the gun you will actually use.

How much ammunition will I need?

It depends on the lesson, but plan on roughly 50 to 100 rounds for a first hour. Mike will tell you the right amount and caliber when he confirms your session.

Can two people share a lesson?

Yes. Two people pay $100 each for the hour, and three or more pay $75 each.

Is one lesson enough?

One lesson is enough to handle a firearm safely and understand the fundamentals. Building reliable skill takes repetition, and Mike will tell you honestly whether more lessons would help.

Where do private lessons take place for Delray Beach students?

At Palm Beach Shooting Center in Lake Worth Beach or the private outdoor range in Boynton Beach. Both are a short drive from Delray Beach, Boca Raton, and Boynton Beach.

Can I book a lesson to try different handguns before buying?

Yes. Tell Mike in your request and he will plan the hour around comparing a few different firearms so you can decide what fits your hand and your needs.

Book a Private Lesson

Tell Mike where you live, what you want to work on, and when you are free. He will reply personally to set up a time and a range.
