Your Home Is the Plan

Home defense is not one skill. It is a plan that fits a specific place: a single-story house in west Delray, a townhome in Boynton Beach, a high-rise condo on A1A in Highland Beach, a gated community in West Boca. Where people sleep, where children or grandchildren stay, which walls are shared with neighbors, and how quickly you can get to a firearm in the dark all change the answer.

These sessions are private, so they are built around your home rather than a generic curriculum. They are booked as private lessons at $125 per hour.

What We Work On

Storage you can reach at night

Quick-access safes, where to mount them, and how to keep a firearm secured from children and visitors but reachable when you need it.

Choosing the right firearm

Handgun or rifle, and why the answer is different in a condo with shared walls than in a stand-alone house.

Shooting skills that matter at home

Close-range accuracy, shooting with a flashlight, and clearing malfunctions under stress.

A household plan

Where family members go, who calls 911, and how to avoid mistaking a family member for an intruder.

Handgun or Rifle for Home Defense?

A handgun is easy to store in a small safe beside the bed and easy to hold while you use a phone or open a door. It is also harder to shoot well than a rifle. A rifle such as an AR-15 is easier to shoot accurately and, with the right ammunition, can be a reasonable choice in a house, but it is larger to store and handle in tight hallways.

In condos and apartments with shared walls, ammunition choice matters as much as the firearm. Mike will walk through the tradeoffs and let you shoot both if you want. Our rifle training page covers AR-15 fundamentals in more depth.

The Legal Side

Florida law has specific provisions about the use of force in the home. Mike explains the practical side and points you to the official text, such as section 776.013, Florida Statutes, rather than giving legal advice. For questions about your own situation, talk to a Florida attorney.

What Students Say

Delray Beach Firearm Training is run by Mike Kneuer and Suburban Protector. These are real Google reviews left for Suburban Protector by students who trained with Mike.

★★★★★
Standing and shooting at the range doesn't even slightly compare to this. You'll learn real life drills and skills that you hope to never have to use but you need to know. Mike is extremely knowledgeable, patient, and has a great teaching method. With Greg and Mike there's no way to walk away without feeling confident that if something were to happen, you are significantly more prepared than before taking the class. I cannot recommend this enough!

★★★★★
Mike and Greg are a master at their craft of shooting. The first time I attended a Suburban Protector class, I wasn't confident with a firearm, and could barely hold my sights straight. With Mike's help, I'm now able to group multiple shots on target and feel confident in a gun range scenario. I highly recommend signing up for a class if you're serious about improving your firearm experience.

Common Questions

Do you come to my home?

No. Training takes place at the range. We talk through your home’s layout and storage during the session, and you can bring photos or a floor plan if it helps.

Should I keep my gun loaded at home?

That depends on who lives in or visits your home and how the firearm is stored. Mike will help you think it through, and Florida’s safe storage law applies when a minor could gain access to a loaded firearm.

Can my spouse train with me?

Yes, and it is a good idea. Two people pay $100 each for the hour.

What should I bring?

Your home defense firearm, unloaded and cased, if you have one. A training firearm is available if you do not.
