Who This Class Is For
Some people search for a shooting lesson. Others search for a gun safety class, and they usually mean something specific: they want to understand the basics properly before they shoot much at all. Maybe there is a gun in the house they did not buy. Maybe a spouse owns one and they want to know how to make it safe. Maybe they are thinking about buying one and want to start the right way.
This class is for that person. It is taught as a private session, or to a small group you put together yourself, such as a couple, a family, or a few neighbors. There is no fixed class date with strangers.
What the Class Covers
- The universal safety rules and how they apply at home, in the car, and at the range
- How handguns work: revolvers and semi-automatic pistols, and how to tell them apart
- How to check whether a firearm is loaded, and how to unload it safely
- Safe storage: safes, lock boxes, cable and trigger locks, and keeping ammunition separate
- What to do if you find a gun, or a child finds one
- Supervised live fire at close distance, so the class ends with you actually shooting safely
Pricing
| Private, one student, one hour | $125 |
| Two students, one hour | $100 per person |
| Three or more students, one hour | $75 per person |
A training firearm, targets, and eye and ear protection are included. Range fees and ammunition are paid separately and confirmed before you book.
Safety Class or Private Lesson?
They overlap. A private lesson spends more time on shooting skill: grip, sight alignment, and trigger press. The safety class spends more time on handling, storage, and the household side of owning a firearm, then finishes with live fire. If you are not sure which you need, say so in your request and Mike will help you pick.
After the safety class, most students either stop there or move on to the concealed carry class or Protector Level 1.
What Students Say
Delray Beach Firearm Training is run by Mike Kneuer and Suburban Protector. These are real Google reviews left for Suburban Protector by students who trained with Mike.
Mike and Greg are a master at their craft of shooting. The first time I attended a Suburban Protector class, I wasn't confident with a firearm, and could barely hold my sights straight. With Mike's help, I'm now able to group multiple shots on target and feel confident in a gun range scenario. I highly recommend signing up for a class if you're serious about improving your firearm experience.
I am fairly new to shooting and was nervous about handling a gun. Mike listened to all of my concerns and brought me in with all of that in mind. He showed me everything I needed to know and made me feel comfortable throughout the lesson. He provided all of the equipment and let me shoot three different guns, explaining the difference between each. It was well worth the time and money, giving me the confidence to move forward with potentially making my first purchase. I will continue to consult with him throughout my growth with shooting.
Common Questions
Do I need to bring a gun?
No. A training firearm is provided. If you have a gun at home you are unsure about, bring it unloaded and cased and we will go through it together.
Is this the same as the concealed carry class?
No. This is a beginner safety class taught by an NRA Certified Pistol Instructor. If you want to apply for a Florida concealed weapon license, the concealed carry class is the course for that.
Can my family take it together?
Yes. Families and couples are common. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and must meet the range’s age policy.
Where is the class held?
Usually at Palm Beach Shooting Center in Lake Worth Beach, about 20 to 25 minutes from downtown Delray Beach outside rush hour.
