A Concealed Carry Course Built Around Shooting

Many concealed carry classes spend most of their time in a classroom reading the statute out loud. This course does it differently. You receive the legal material to read at home, at your own pace, and your time with Mike goes to what you cannot learn from a document: handling, shooting, and carrying safely.

The course is delivered as two private lessons. That means it is scheduled around you instead of a fixed Saturday class, which is why it is popular with working professionals in Boca Raton and parents in Delray Beach and Boynton Beach.

Do You Still Need a License in Florida?

Since July 1, 2023, Florida has allowed adults who meet the license eligibility requirements to carry a concealed firearm without a license. Many people still get the license anyway. It is recognized by a number of other states for travel, and the training is what gives you the skill and judgment the law does not require. For eligibility and the application process, read the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services concealed weapon license page.

What the License Gets You

  • Carry when you travel. Many states honor a Florida license. Check the current list on the FDACS reciprocity page before every trip, because it changes.
  • Skip the handgun waiting period. Florida’s waiting period for handgun purchases does not apply to concealed weapon license holders under section 790.0655, Florida Statutes.
  • Answers for the road. FDACS keeps a traveling with a firearm FAQ worth reading before you drive out of state.

The Whole Process in Four Steps

  1. Book. Text 561-376-2818 or send a request. Mike sets both lesson times with you.
  2. Lesson one. Safe handling, fundamentals, and live fire with Mike beside you.
  3. Lesson two. Carry skills, holster and storage choices, and your qualification sign-off.
  4. Apply. Submit your application to FDACS online, at an FDACS regional office, or at an authorized Florida tax collector’s office. See applying for a concealed weapon license for current options.

After the Course

Students who want to train past the minimum usually move on to Protector Level 1 for fundamentals or Protector Level 2 for holster work and movement.

How the Course Runs, Lesson by Lesson

Lesson one: handling and fundamentals

Safe handling, loading and unloading, clearing malfunctions, and the core shooting fundamentals. Live fire starts close and builds as you get comfortable. If you are new to firearms, this lesson moves at your pace.

Lesson two: carry and qualification

Carry methods and holster choice, safe holstering, storage at home and in the car, and live-fire qualification with your instructor. You leave with the documentation used for your Florida application.

What to Expect From the State Application

Once you complete the training, you apply to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, which issues the license. Applications include fingerprints, a photo, and state fees that are separate from our course. Palm Beach County residents can apply through FDACS directly or through an authorized county tax collector office. The current steps, fees, and eligibility rules are posted on the FDACS website, and they change from time to time, so check there before you apply.

Carrying in Daily Life in South Palm Beach County

A lot of the real questions show up after the license arrives. What do I do with my firearm when I go to a doctor’s appointment? Can I carry into a restaurant on Atlantic Avenue in Delray or at Mizner Park in Boca? What about the beach, a school pickup line, or a government building in Boynton Beach? Florida law lists places where carrying is prohibited, and private businesses can set their own rules.

We cover the practical side of those situations in the course, and we point you to the statutes themselves so you are reading the official language rather than someone’s summary. The goal is that you carry confidently, legally, and without drawing attention.

Choosing a Carry Gun and Holster

The most common mistake new carriers make is buying a holster that does not cover the trigger guard or does not hold the gun securely. The second is choosing a firearm that is too small to shoot well. Bring what you have, and Mike will give you an honest read on whether it works for carrying in Florida heat, under the kind of clothes people actually wear here.

Delray Beach Firearm Training is run by Mike Kneuer and Suburban Protector. These are real Google reviews left for Suburban Protector by students who trained with Mike.

★★★★★
I took a Concealed Carry fundamentals course this weekend and our instructor Mike did a phenomenal job! The program was packed with info. Mike is a great teacher who clearly explains not just what we should do, but why that principle is important and effective. Each lesson was built on top of the principles from the previous lesson and then drilled on the range. I left a far more confident and proficient concealed carrier. I highly recommend Suburban Protector and any courses taught by Mike and his partner Greg.

★★★★★
I came in as a complete beginner with zero experience and honestly a little nervous, but the team at Suburban Protector made me feel comfortable right away. They explained everything clearly, were very patient, and focused on real-world safety and confidence. By the end of the session, I felt way more capable and informed. Highly recommend for anyone starting from scratch.
